Re: Grand Canyon VI

Good morning. Worked about two hours on this yesterday and only got this far with only one post. Problems with seeing it, doing it, and especially the compositional attention stuff. This bluff and cliff area needs to be bigger, stronger and with deeper shadows without becoming the main attraction. I...

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good evening. Well, I got to work on a spot that did not depend on drying paint as it was already dry. There are four trees in this painting where my reference photo had two with the foremost front tree at least twice the size of these trees. Looks good in the photo, but would have been way out of s...

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good afternoon Joseph. I saw and commented on you stag painting. Thanks for your comments. Answer to you question about June. Sadly, no. Even if I could paint six hours a day, which is impossible in the summer time, I could not finish it before June 30. Not likely at all. But I am sure we both know ...

Re: Latest Oil

Joseph. The tree; Yes. I would title this one "The Rut". Just love the old fashioned Remington painting style.

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good afternoon. Four progress posts today. I am now working on the extreme foreground that shows up close the topology of the road section. There is more definition and an increase in size of the form elements in the groundwork, rocks and trees. I believe it enhances the feeling of depth for the vie...

Re: You ever lost your artistic abilities?

Bluntly, I cannot paint or draw anything when I get depressed. I start going down that road about feeling like I am worthless, only pretending to be an artist. When I feel the state of depression coming on I usually start doing yard work or cleaning the garage or my studio, anything active to lessen...

Re: Slug sculpt. Music added.

Amazing work. I expected to see it move because of such life like realism. Your selection of music was very sweet making the automatic "ugh" feeling of looking a slug vanish with the immediate replacement of how beautiful this is. Nice job.

Re: Say something about my painting~

Well, thank you for sharing. I see that you can paint. I also see that you have had some degree of art education and training. Now to the painting. Good faded background transitional movement from the varied greens at the bottom to the multi toned yellows. Very ethereal. Keeping the same feeling in ...

Re: Grand Canyon VI

Good evening. I have two posts I finished today. While working on Grand Canyon V some of my problems with this Grand Canyon VI got solved in the back of my mind. So, this afternoon I worked on this drawing. When this one is finished I think I am finished with the Grand Canyon. At least for awhile. I...

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good morning. I have some time to do this post before the day's life business impedes. Well, it took only 4 days for it to dry enough to go back to work on it, so, I did. There are four posts today. I did cliff enhancements, land mass fill ins and tree impression forms. The cliff ridges through out ...

Re: it is the best way to dry oil paint faster?

I once had less than a week to do a portrait painting to present at a funeral. It took me three days to do the painting and three days to dry it, varnish it and frame it. If you blow a hot stream of air onto the face of the painting it will dry it and crack it because the paint under the surface is ...

Re: Nice work of Leonid Afremov

Yes, this is a nice painting. But, I have to say that it is my opinion that it is overworked with far to many spots everywhere. While my opinion is obviously in the minority, I think the painting would be improved by having far fewer spots to allow more depth of view into the painting thereby afford...

Re: Can a fine art painting lose value?

Hum. I disagree. While it is true that a painting is enhanced by the history, it is not the major factor in determining value. The daily economic condition of a society is far more important. History has shown that in good times abstracts have higher value than in bad times. Conversely, realism has ...

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good morning. Working within my mind to mud time frame limitations I succeeded in advancing the progress on this painting with five posts. I took five pictures of the progress to record each, what I considered different thought steps, developmental process for what I think are the sequential steps t...

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good afternoon. Well fiddle, fiddle and faddle. I can't get past the six hour barrier. Worked three hours. Started at eight. Had breakfast around eleven. Took a short nap. Worked another three hours and my mind just stopped. When I saw some muddling going on in the painting and drew a mental blank, ...
