I like your
ight and enthusiastic use of color and
ushwork in your painting. If you are looking for more realism then you may want to look as Joe says at the underlying muscles of the face so that you're giving more variation in values to explain the different planes of the face.

Yes that is a watercolor. With a lot of practice you learn how the paint will most likely blend on wet paper so that you don't end up with mud. My tabby painting is the result of years of practice and painting.

In watercolor texture is achievable by using salt in wet paint, rough dry
ush in layers etc. Since watercolor is naturally all one layer texture has to be in the way the paint is manipulated thru the
ushwork or other tricks.
