Thanks everybody! This last year has been a whirl wind for me and art. I've got representation by a wonderful gallery in Columbus and have finally been selling and getting commissions. I'm experimenting a lot for my first solo show early next year (I'll be 24 by then). Starting to believe maybe I ca...

Newer paintings

I've been absent from the forums for way too long. I have a whole host of new ones to show but I'll start with these. Both are oil on canvas.

Workin on the photoshoppin skills

My sister is an aspiring photographer, so we work in tandem often on shoots. Its sort of glamor/fashion/representational/experimentation. These photos are tests from the last two. She uses me as a guinea pig frequently, so I'm in most of these. I will give her the feedback on the photos and would li...

Book Covers

I was commissioned for a christian/messianic book series to do the covers. These are the first two submitted for publishing. They are a mix of painting and photoshopping which has been a sub-focus area of mine for the last couple of months. Thanks DL for tipping me off to this job. The author has be...

I will check him out, thanks for the tip. I love the feedback in the forums, but I think I look forward to your posts the most, I never know what I am going to get :) and by the way, I think this might be the best web artists community out there, I've been checking around and nothing compares to the...

wow

Your work is right up my alley. Just love it. I'm not confused, bothered by it or see anything worthy of change. I see a lot of movement coming from the right, like the background is trying to suck the figure in while it struggles to fit loose, twisting violently toward the light. I dig it. Big time.

Mika'el the Archangel

Another commission. Sorry for the shoddy photograph, its rather grainy. A Catholic man wanted me to do a different take on Mika'el the Arch Angel. So I painted him without armor because he draws his strength from the LORD, his covering is a simple linen skirt. His wings are eagles wings and his swor...

No you're dead on. My prints depicting Jesus are my best sellers and what draw people into my booth or display every time. I always felt there was an absense in christian art of some real gritty emotion, a raw sense of awe at the things God does even conveyed so simply in basic human form. I like to...

A new thread of controversy :) Check out my latest

This was commissioned by a man out of Chicago. He wanted my take on the Holy Spirit. I wanted something that represented the essence of repentance and the need for guidance. I used the same hands from an earlier series, this time pouring out the water, symbolic of baptism and forgiveness. I am start...

Revamped and simplified

Been busting my behind to fix my website and work on my collection and commissions all at the same time, so I simplified it and I like it. Question is...does anybody else?

Part of the problem is the picture I've taken, not the painting. The cuts are stylized but have much more depth to them in real life. There are no skin folds those are the natural shadows in the photo. Upon examination, my father, (whose is like my mentor) says something is missing and claims it isn...

"Tene ism, from the Italian tene oso ("murky"), (also called dramatic illumination) is a style of painting using violent contrasts of light and dark. A heightened form of chiaroscuro, it creates the look of figures emerging from the dark. The difference between Tene ism and chiaroscur...

New painting...still working with the dark theme

My interpretation of the verse "and he oke the chains of sin and death upon us". What I was going for in my head was to stylize Jesus in his descent to hell to conquer death. I kept it simple, trying to ing the focus to the middle where the thick chain is being oken. I'm starting to work h...

I'm not quite sure where I was going with this you are right. It kind of evolved under my paint ush plus I got tired of it so I left it alone and kind of liked it. So I was just curious if others would like it the same as I did in its rough state. Actually in real life, the colors don't look grainy ...

Oh I didn't mean it like that. I just wanted to know a reason why someone doesn't feel it. Like for instance, you told me about the perspective and detail in the foreground and thats helpful to me. I just wanted a bit more about why they weren't feeling. I don't mean to come off as sensitively, but ...

It's ok. If I spent all my waking time trying to please everybody I wouldn't sleep or ever do anything I enjoy. I'm working on developing my own style and this painting is just part of the journey. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I won't lie and say I don't care when I get critiqued, it j...

titles

I also never titled this the hands of God, thats what I see in my mind, but what I wanted others to interpret from it, not hear from my lips...the titles are "the creator" "the redeemer" and "the supplier" :) Hopefully I can take the last word here and hopefully we won'...

wowzers!

I had no idea these posts were going on like this. First of all, I'm sorry. Not for the paintings, but for not clarifying what the intent was. As an artist, and we all fall into oad social/political spectrums, part of being what we are is our ability to create something to show some meaning or leave...
