Re: Practice with Mediums

I have yet to add any texture mediums, as I am concerned about the outcome. Though I may try one painting as see what happens. Start with something small to experiment with... I played around with Acrylic pours, that I later did some pen and Ink over, or Epoxy Resin sculpts that I followed with foi...

Re: How to list art medium?

I think its up to you, but should be reflective to the level of changes you do to the original photo... If minor: Color correction, some masking, Enhancing a Lighting effect, etc.. then Photo-Manipulated Digital Print could be appropriate. Whereas; if you are changing textures, adding 'more' that sp...

Re: Rock formation sunset

Hi Paullorin, I like where you are going with this... very good if only from memory. In addition to the comments you have received already, I would like to suggest to be take a step back, and look at the mountain face on the left. The texture and colors are on the right track; but you may want to de...

Re: Composition Question...

.. so where did you end up doing Pooch? I personally, liked the asymmetry, it didn't appear imbalanced to me. But that's just me.
Would very much love to see the AFTER picture, if it is any different though.

Re: Red Flowers

Great analogy and story John - Its also important, as an artist, to know WHAT those self-imposed rules are.
Recognize them, and consciously make the decision to free oneself from them, or live within them when creating.

Re: Thinking of going into art. Any suggestions?

its a part of who you are... you can do both, the responsible stuff, and still nurture your creative self. I would say, go for it! Try what you know, what you haven't tried yet.. explore and have fun!!!

Re: Watercolor of a Vemeer

Nicely done portrait... the negative space just behind her neck makes her neck seem a little thin. Did you work from a photo? Really good capture of color and depth on the fabrics.
I would suggest keep going... its looking really good.

Re: 'Faith' - my last work

I too like the contrast and color dynamics... I would like to see a bit more work on the gradient that is happening on the deer splice... this would make it look more connected and complete - rather than one layer above another. All the best.

Re: Sometimes Melancholy

Looking good!! I would slow down on the details and finishing it a bit, and really dial in the high and low tones... be careful not to over shadow the mouth area so it doesn't look like a muzzle. remember there too, is highs and lows - the divot just under the nose that creates the bow in the upper ...

Re: Desert Sunset critique

Do you have a reference photo? I like it, but would like to see more upward radiance... usually when sun sets, there is a intensity. To me this calm glow you have here reminds me more of a sunrise... equally lovely.. but different, just the same. Hope that helps.

Re: Italian Girl in Tradtiional Costume

Hi Jenn, the photo I took does not show her clothing well at all... clearly much darker than the original painting. I wish I was a better photographer but for now I just use my cell. Thank you for your advice! I actually do not mind that the black of her clothes meld into the background, my comment...
