Re: Black

background almost takes as much hard work as the character does that's why i just quickly painted flower I get it... however don't sell your focal point short by skimping on the background. its better to not put it in, and do it later, than to throw something in as an afterthought. Let alone, throw...

Re: Can this art be taken seriously?

I would say 'why not?' If you take it seriously then the world will follow your lead. You can always do craft fairs.. or local arts showings etc, but I encourage you to explore and research galleries... share your work with those you think would be a good fit, and see with the will accept your work....

Re: John Malkovich, Actor

Thank you, Jenn. Was working on John earlier today. It is slow but kind of happy exploit : ) The way I am working is slow and might appear tedious to any onlooker, but I figure if I am adding something that helps, and do it enough, I will have a nice big image of a very brilliant and original 'thes...

Re: Mermaids Special !!!

I really like them.. you definitely have a flare for Disney techniques.... I would say Keep it up.. you only get better with practice. would be great if each of your art pieces however were their own post so each could have their own time for comments and feedback. would also love to see a creation ...

Re: honest feedback please

Hi Sylvian, I really like the marriage between the geometric to the abstract colors... I am not a fan of the drip-swirls so much, but do very much like the radiating hues in the background contrasting against the more solid tones in the shapes.

Re: I am ready for the fury

Your rendition of Mona Lisa is 100% recognizable - has great colors and blending.... that said I also, second everything that singular noted. doing a person, can be hard where proportions are concerned. Keep practicing. Look at human anatomy and proportion notes. Even the old ones (text from Vitruvi...

Re: Italian Girl in Traditional Costume

I really like the expression in your Ital Girl, Tony.. Really good texture and highlights to her hair and reflection in her eyes. You are doing great! Keep it up. :) Suggest the technique of looking at your work in the reflection of a mirror periodically (early on in sketch as well as along the way)...

Re: Practice with Mediums

I have yet to add any texture mediums, as I am concerned about the outcome. Though I may try one painting as see what happens. Start with something small to experiment with... I played around with Acrylic pours, that I later did some pen and Ink over, or Epoxy Resin sculpts that I followed with foi...

Re: Practice with Mediums

Oh yes - I agree, Extender mediums are great for longevity of the pigment. have you ever added any texture mediums too to your acrylics?

Re: How to list art medium?

I think its up to you, but should be reflective to the level of changes you do to the original photo... If minor: Color correction, some masking, Enhancing a Lighting effect, etc.. then Photo-Manipulated Digital Print could be appropriate. Whereas; if you are changing textures, adding 'more' that sp...

Re: Rock formation sunset

Hi Paullorin, I like where you are going with this... very good if only from memory. In addition to the comments you have received already, I would like to suggest to be take a step back, and look at the mountain face on the left. The texture and colors are on the right track; but you may want to de...

Re: Composition Question...

.. so where did you end up doing Pooch? I personally, liked the asymmetry, it didn't appear imbalanced to me. But that's just me.
Would very much love to see the AFTER picture, if it is any different though.

Re: Red Flowers

Great analogy and story John - Its also important, as an artist, to know WHAT those self-imposed rules are.
Recognize them, and consciously make the decision to free oneself from them, or live within them when creating.
