Rainy Day at the Canal

I saw these gulls at the canal during my lunch
eak one day last spring. They looked so miserable I had to draw them. This is in colored pencil.

And Erika :) In answer to your questions about this drawing - This gentleman was at the state fair this year in Massachusetts. He was with the other artisans giving demonstrations. I loved his eyes, and the way his glasses were sitting on the end of his nose while I talked to him - so I asked him if...

John - I hope so much that you are right :) . My whole life I have wanted to be able to just paint for a living, but being a single mom and all it just wasn't in the cards. But now I have a small window of opportunity to try, and I am putting my all into it. And I am getting a eak which should help ...

Thanks once again Pehiatt :) . Drawing will always be my favorite, even though I am learning more and more in the study of light and color with oils .

The Artisan

Here is another one of my new pieces. This is an 18 x 24 oil intitled "The Artisan". He ended up with a bit too much blue for my liking but did well at a show I entered him in . What do you all think?

:D Thanks Riaan and neogenius44 for your comments. That is what makes art so wonderful - it is so personal. Everyone likes and dislikes different things, different styles, different feelings. Personally, I love to do people and animals - young and old. I like to attempt to capture personality, a cer...

I think its a wonderful sketch with beautiful lights and darks. Your rendering of the horse is especially good. It looks like you may have struggled a bit with the man, but it doesn't distract from the overall drawing, which really is quite nice.

Hello everyone and a new drawing

Hi everyone, I haven't posted anything for quite awhile, been computerless for a time and very busy now trying to get my art going before I am forced to return to a 40 hour a week job (got laid off and collecting right now) Anyway, for those that remember me, hello and hello to everyone who has join...

I think most especially hands are hard to draw and look natural at that straight out position. You could try to practice drawing your own hands at rest in front of you - curled up in different positions. It is a good eye trainer and good practice. I do it alot - both hands, although I draw better w...

Thanks :D The papyrus paper is kind of hard to work on - every piece is different and parts of it are slick and won't take the crayon, other parts so thin you have to be careful not to tear it when drawing. You have to work With it and make the paper part of the drawing (instead of fighting it) and...
