Re: Getty Center sketch

Thanks so much for the kind words and suggestions. I am still learning how to deal with charcoal and chalk. The paper I used is that brown you see. I thought it would enhance that nighttime feel. After having sat around for so long, I think quite a bit of the charcoal has rubbed off or fallen off. I...

Getty Center sketch

Let me know what you think. This is one of my first charcoals I did about a year ago. It's from a photo I took at night at the Getty Center in L.A. about five years ago. What an incredible place! 12x12 on linen-textured card stock. I can take any kind of criticism.

Re: Some of my drawings/paintings

These are great. I'm assuming most of these are charcoals?

Red dogwood

Another painting I would like honest opinions on. Don't worry about hurting my feelings. This is acrylic on 24x30 canvas. Again, this wasn't intended to be completely realistic, particularly the color. I just wanted to use that naphthol crimson against black. I ended up blending a lot of white with ...

Re: Let me know what you think.

Thanks a lot for those links Eddie! I looked through them a bit today and they will be really helpful. I have always had a lot of problems with figures and I can tell this has already helped. There are some amazing learning opportunities here in the Seattle area also, so I will certainly look into t...

Re: Let me know what you think.

Thanks so much for your comments and suggestions. I am indeed a complete self-taught amateur. I have been painting and drawing for around a year now and I am the first to admit I need some training. I am just a bit lazy in that way, as I would much rather be painting stuff. I will take your suggesti...

Let me know what you think.

I am new around here. I appreciate honest opinions. It's ok to be tough on me. This is Sennelier oil pastels on 18x24 watercolor paper. I use a palette knife to apply the pastel and my fingers to move it around. It`s not supposed to be terribly realistic.

Re: old lifeboat house

Great painting! I just love sillhouettes. The water is beautiful. The sky is beautiful. The detail in the pier and boathouse are awesome. The only issue I might have is the water's edge near the horizon. Should it reflect more of the orange of the sunset and then lighten the closer it gets to the vi...

I'm the new guy

Hello. I have been lurking around this site for about a month now, but never had the guts to join (till now). The works I see in the contests are so wonderful. I have always been a lover of art, but never thought I would be able to create it. About a year ago my lovely girlfriend of fifteen years bo...
