Re: Solitude 7

Ok I don't think I'm any good at the "Works in progress" thing. You just get the start and finish. Every time I think to step back and take a picture my hands are covered in paint and I'm not reaching into my pocket to get my phone. So here it is, I literally just finished it, the paint wi...

Re: Solitude 7

Thanks Carl, but you know I still have the most important person of all whom I still report to every day, my wife. The honey-do list is now much longer now :)

Solitude 7

I'm Retired! So now I get to be a full time hobbyist. I decided this week's hobby to pursue would be painting. But what to paint? I didn't have any inspiration. Then I logged onto A Singular and saw this months contest, Solitude. That triggered a memory of a great photo I have, problem is the photo ...

Curves Sketch 2

I got the silhouette roughly sketched out on this. Stepping back and looking at it I see the abdomen needs to sweep into the hips more sliming it out and the legs are way to thick. I'll fix that then move onto details.

Re: A New Pastel

A little more work bringing in the colors and details in the background, and screwing up her head :(

Sorry for the iPhone pics. My equipment, space and lighting sucks over here. I can't scan anything over 9x12.

Most attempts have added up in the trash can. I hope this one works. Here's the results after about 6 hours in.

Re: Africa Series

Thanks Elizabeth. Now that I got my feet wet again on the computer the next project will be a lot more complex and time consuming.

Africa Series

I just started getting back into some digital art. To warm up and refamiliarize myself with Photoshop and my Wacom I started with some basic combination matte paintings / photo manipulations. I started by painting the sunsets and then I layered over them with some stock animal photos and Acacia tree...

Inflorescence

Reference photo: Water_Flower_WPv_by_darkgoth.jpg Credit: Natasha Epperson (http://www.illustratedeye.com/) I moved a lot faster then expected on this, but I did pull it off the easel and took a photo every now and then. I started with a primed canvas on which I sketched a basic outline of the piece...

Re: The Green Challenge

Ok I finished this one up. I used a few shades of green (viridian, cobalt and sap). some cad yellow, ultramarine and titanium white and even a little cobalt violet for the shadows. I think Lady in Red is a more technical piece but the dynamics of this one are better.

Re: The Green Challenge

Thanks for the vote of confidence Elizabeth. I did some more today. I got most of the model complete. I gave her a new face. In the reference photo she looks a bit dumbfounded, I gave her a more sultry expression. I'm onto the challenging part of the piece, the green palette. I got the foundation do...

The Green Challenge

So after completing Lady in Red ( http://www.asingularcreation.com/Gallery/displayimage.php?pid=80400&fullsize=1) I decided to do another this time avoiding the mistakes I made. So I came across this photo in a folder full of stock images and the balance, lighting and tone seem perfect so I'm go...

Re: Digital Painting: Orchids

I actually finished this up tonight. Here's a few more shots along the way.
Zoom in to paint in the fine details

Use contrasting highlights and lowlights to define edges

Digital Painting: Orchids

I'm working on a new digital painting for my stepdad and I'm taking a few lazy screenshots (snapping a pics of my screen with my iPhone) as I work. I figured I could share the process with him after I finish the piece. Here's what I got so far. orchid1.jpg orchid2.jpg orchid3.jpg That's it for tonig...
