Thanks for pointing that out. Sometimes I stay too true to my reference material and forget about the effect of some details. I have removed the curl of hair and now the viewers eye stays more toward the face/point of interest.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. That clears up my question. I wasn't sure how much the popular vote weighed into the overall results.

Voting ?

Not sure if this has been a problem but it just popped into my head. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone for doing this but I've noticed that some pieces of artwork have substantially more votes than others yet were submitted at a later date. It seems like if someone really wanted to win the monthly ...

Buffalo WIP

Hello, This is an oil painting I'm currently working on. The painting (American Buffalo) is 24" X 30". It's not quite complete. I wanted to get everyone's opinions before I proceed any further. Sorry, there is some glare on the photo because it is still wet. Thanks. http://i174.photobucket...

ehoeveler: Thanks for the input on the trees. I will think about making some changes to them. I agree that the average viewer wouldn't derive that this is a burnt forest without me telling them. I would like that to be obvious to the viewer, so I'll see what I can do. CameleonQc: Thanks for the kind...

The trees are actually lodgepole pines that were burnt in a fire a few years back. Kind of hard to depict but I tried to simplify the background as much as possible.

The painting is 16 inches X 20 inches.

Thanks. I've recently been trying to loosen up a little bit especially in the background to help
ing the eye to the focal point of the painting. I've had a lot of people describe my paintings as photorealism and that's not really what I'm going for. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

Need a critique

Hello, I have just finished this oil painting titled "Late Summer Velvet" and would love a critique. I am a self-taught artist so please don't hesitate to be completely honest. I know I have a lot to learn and I feel I learn the most from other artists. http://www.kellydangerfield.com/imag...
