Re: "Dreaming of Boudin's Skies"

The horizon line is straight, my photo isn't.
Also it's not a reflection, the bottom half is underwater.
And they aren't mountains, but icebergs.

"Dreaming of Boudin's Skies"

I just finished this painting a month or two ago, but I didn't get around to photo-documenting it decently until last night. The painting was partly inspired by a dream I had that I ran and ran all the way to the ocean, and when I got to the beach I kept running, meaning to wade my way into the wave...

Re: Ink and Wash Illustration

I think the perception of depth could be heightened in the scenery. The brush strokes are the same size in foreground as they are in the background, and there is the same level of detail, and this is flattening the space. If you added a few subtle details towards the bottom edge of the illustration,...

Re: What type of objects should I do/add to my art

Something about the horizontal lines and bright colors reminds me of doodling in class, probably because at first glance it looks like it's on lined paper. That vortex-like pattern in the middle of the bird's back is a interesting moment. The surreal qualities give it a dark feel even though the col...

Re: Why do you paint/sculpt/create?

Why do we make art? After all it is time-consuming, sometimes emotionally painful, and compared to other activities, it's not particularly lucrative. I make are because I enjoy it, but even more so because I can't help it. I'd keep making art even if I didn't want to. In a way, it's kind of a "...

Re: Is a studio all its cracked up to be?

My boyfriend and I are artists together, and we've turned most of our 500 square foot apartment into studio. Most of the wall space is taken up by our pictures, and we have desks and easels set up in the corners. Keeping things really neat and organized means we can still have guests and usable spac...

Re: Making and selling prints and other items on Etsy

It turned out my image was too big to post, but I have a couple example in my profile of what I'd be making prints, etc. of.

Making and selling prints and other items on Etsy

So I still haven't tried Etsy.com for selling work, though I've heard a lot of good things about it. I'm a painter, and I want to start testing out selling prints. I'm also looking to sell other things, like buttons, card, maybe even coffee mugs. I've attached a picture of a painting I did. What do ...

Re: goddess figures

Yeah, the feet in the back are a nice touch. The curve of her spine on the one on the left is a beautiful moment. The posture of the middle figure is a little awkward. I have trouble making sense of what she's doing. Is she crouching, poised about to take off for flight? If so I think this could be ...

Re: watching - acrylic

This is beautiful. It looks spontaneous but balanced. I'm a little envious :) in a good way. I looked at it for a good few minutes, and I can't find much to critique. The repetition of circular shapes pulls it together, but if the content was somehow related it might give it even more unity.

Re: pastel practice

You've got a lot of beautiful undertones going on. It's good to see that as a sculptor you understand color from a two dimensional perspective. Skin looks really dull and flat without all of those cool and warm tones and layers. The color gives the skin depth, but even with that depth the face still...

Re: Hey guys :]

Nice meeting you! How long have you been going to art school? I took a lot of classes in high school (and loved them), but after spending a year at a formal art school I couldn't handle it. I was turning out so much homework I didn't have time for what I wanted to do, and in an entire year as a pain...
