  • About Me: My professional activities are currently on hold due to advanced Lyme disease. I am still working on projects are writing as much as my health allows, but sadly that is not very much right now.

    I am a self-taught artist, continually seeking to improve and advance my skills and repertoire of media. I began with realism in graphite and colored pencil on one hand, while on the other I worked in pen and marker to create detailed Celtic knot designs. Recently, I have been re-invigorated by working in oil paint, with dip pens, ink wash, and watercolor. Animals are a favorite subject for both past and future projects. Subjects in oil and ink also include steampunk, still life, landscape, fantasy, and the esoteric. Over the years, my detailed realism has been punctuated with minimalist artwork and designs.

    I am also strongly devoted to education and providing tools for other artists to develop their own skills and creative voices. To that end, I also write free tutorials and am developing workshops and other educational tools.

Oh my goodness! The tutorial is wonderful, and extremely helpful! Thank you so much for being so generous with your artistic discoveries. I love your colored pencil drawings, and I am definitely going to try this. I am only just beginning to discover the potential of that medium, having only completed one portrait (Michaela at Tawas in my portrait gallery on this website) and at present being in process on my second. I hadn't thought of the black paper, though. Thank you, thank you! I love to experiment :)

Thank you so much for answering! I teach drawing to junior high and high school kids out of my home, and I have one girl who wanted to draw a black and white leopard with blue eyes on a black background. I wasn't sure the easiest way to do that, but I think your technique might work for her. Thanks for sharing :)
